§19 COMMODITIES¶
OVERVIEW¶
The Commodities page tracks 14 instruments across four categories in a single unified grid. Precious metals (Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium) are tracked via ETF proxies — GLD, SLV, PPLT, PALL. All other instruments (Crude Oil WTI, Brent, Natural Gas, Copper, Aluminum, Corn, Wheat, Soybeans, Coffee, Sugar, Cotton) use official daily or monthly price series.

Each card shows the latest price in the commodity's native unit, daily change, 52-week range position, and a 30-day sparkline. Clicking any card loads its chart in the panel below the grid.

Macro Context strip (Pro+)¶
Five tiles showing the macro backdrop that drives commodity prices.
| Series | What it measures |
|---|---|
| DTWEXBGS | Trade-weighted USD — rising dollar is a headwind for dollar-priced commodities |
| CPIAUCSL | CPI YoY — commodity inflation lead |
| DGS10 | 10-Year Treasury yield — rising rates are a headwind for non-yielding gold |
| T10YIE | Breakeven inflation — market's forward inflation expectation |
| DCOILWTICO | WTI alongside Brent — rendered as the WTI-Brent spread proxy |
Performance Table (Pro+)¶
Groups all 14 commodities by category for relative-performance ranking. Use it to identify the strongest and weakest sector at a glance.
AI Commodity Briefing (Terminal)¶
Click [ AI_BRIEFING ] in the top right to generate a written read on the day's commodity action. The panel collapses and expands on click.
Commodity News¶
A news feed at the bottom of the page filtered for commodity-relevant headlines — gold, oil, OPEC, natural gas, copper, wheat, corn, mining, platinum, palladium, and more. Click any headline to open the source article.
HOW TO USE¶
- Open
/commodities. The first commodity in your loaded set is selected by default and its chart loads beneath the grid. - Read the category headers — Precious Metals, Energy, Industrial Metals, Agriculture — to orient across the grid.
- Click any card to switch the chart panel to that commodity. The chart renders the relevant ETF proxy symbol (e.g., USO for WTI, BNO for Brent, UNG for Natural Gas, GLD for Gold).
- Check the 52-week range bar on each card to gauge momentum and mean-reversion context.
- Read the Macro Context strip (Pro+) for the five macro variables driving commodity prices.
- Use the Performance Table (Pro+) to scan for the strongest and weakest category.
- Click [ AI_BRIEFING ] (Terminal) for a written summary of the day's commodity action.
- Scroll to Commodity News for filtered headlines relevant to your instruments.
Common use cases
OPEC headline incoming — Check WTI vs. Brent spread in the Macro Context tile, then look at Crude Oil's 52-week range position to assess where price sits relative to recent history.
Inflation regime check — Copper signals industrial demand, Wheat/Corn/Soybeans signal food inflation, Crude/Natural Gas signal energy inflation. Compare each against CPI in the context tile.
Dollar-strength trade — Rising DXY alongside falling Gold is the classic risk-off tightening signal. Both are visible on the same screen.
Agricultural relative value — Coffee, Sugar, Cotton, Wheat, Corn, and Soybeans are all in one view. Useful for spread trades such as long Wheat / short Corn during weather events.
KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS¶
No keyboard shortcut is assigned to /commodities. Access the page from the §MARKETS group in the sidebar.
LIMITS¶
ETF proxy pricing for precious metals
Precious metals display ETF share prices, not spot ounce prices. GLD represents approximately 0.094 oz of gold per share, so the price shown is the ETF NAV proxy — not the spot price per troy ounce. For true spot ounce pricing a primary precious-metals feed is required.
Data latency
All commodity price series are end-of-day. ETF proxy prices are delayed. No intraday commodity data is available on this page.
