§00 SCANNER¶
OVERVIEW¶
The Scanner shows the stocks that are gapping, spiking on volume or breaking out right now, and adds new names to the list as they qualify. You pick a scan, watch the list, and click a row to see the chart. On a computer it is a workspace of panels. On a phone it is a feed of cards.
Every panel in the grid runs a preset — a pre-built hunt like "stocks that gapped up before the open" or "stocks trading 3× their normal volume." Rows flow in live. Click a row and its chart loads below. Click the wrong thing, change the preset, try again — nothing here can lose you money. The Scanner is a camera, not a cash register.
What the Scanner Is¶
A full screen with three things happening at once:
Scanner panels — the live lists. Each shows one preset's results: ticker, price, percent change, volume, and a few more numbers per row. Rows flash green or red as prices tick. A green pulse means the stock just joined the list — that's the interesting moment.
Charts — click any ticker and its chart loads inline, no new tab needed. You can stack more than one timeframe at once.
Cockpit panels — the add-on instruments: a Level 2 order book (the live queue of buy and sell orders), the time & sales tape (every trade printing, one line at a time), a news feed, your watchlist, an alert feed. You add the ones you want, arrange them, and save the whole setup as a workspace.
The status bar at the top always shows you which session you're in — Pre-Market, Market Open, After Hours, or Market Closed (US Eastern time, since that's when US stocks trade) — plus how many stocks are streaming and the seconds since the last data refresh. If the market is closed and prices are yesterday's, rows carry a STALE — LAST CLOSE chip so you know you're looking at history, not live action.

Tier Access
The free tier shows one live scanner panel with full rows; all other panels render with only the top mover visible and the rows below blurred ("fog of war"). The upgrade CTA sits on the fog — logged-out visitors see "Sign up for a free 7-day Pro trial", free users see "Subscribe to Pro for the full list". Pro sees every panel fully live with no fogs. The grid workspace (custom layouts, unlimited panels, addable cockpit panels), the full preset library, natural-language scans, audio alerts, and the multi-chart trading-view mode unlock on Pro ($39/mo) — also granted in full during the 7-day Pro trial. Logged-out (anonymous) visitors see the live panel as a 15-minute-delayed feed; signed-in free users see the live panel as real-time. Trial + Pro are always real-time across all panels.
The scanner ships three surfaces: the default trading-view mode (charts + scanner in one screen), a scanner-only mode (grid full-bleed), and a desktop-only Panel view at /scanner/grid — nine preset cells plus a sticky quote panel (that one is Pro and hidden from mobile nav; phones show a guided nudge back to the mobile scanner instead). At its core, a 2×1 / 2×2 / 3×2 grid of independent scanner panels, each running a preset (top-gainers, pre-market-gap-up, unusual-volume, near-52w-high, etc.) over the same shared streaming universe — raised from 200 to 500 symbols (2026-07-11). Panels are drag-reorderable. A green pulse on a row means it just entered the panel; a fade-out means it dropped out. Rows flash green or red on every price change — including the anonymous 15-minute-delayed view, so the scanner reads as live even before you sign in. The status bar at the top shows the active session (Pre-Market / Market Open / After Hours / Market Closed), the total symbols in the universe, and the seconds since the last refresh. When the market is closed and the price is yesterday's, rows carry a STALE — LAST CLOSE chip so the delay is labeled, not hidden.
WHEN TO USE¶
Every session. Pre-market for gappers and overnight news reactions, the open for ORB candidates and RVOL spikes, mid-day for continuation setups, power hour for closing-print squeezes. Most sessions start here.

HOW TO RUN YOUR FIRST SCAN¶
Click Scanner in the left menu (or press ⌘2). On a phone, tap Scanner in the bottom bar.
Look at the top-left panel. Its title names the scan, for example Top Gainers, and the small count beside it (8 HITS) is how many stocks match right now.
Read a row left to right: time the stock first appeared, symbol, price, % change, volume, float, and relative volume (RVOL). RVOL compares today's volume with what the stock normally trades by this time of day. Above 1x means it is running hotter than usual.
Check the footer line. It tells you when the data is from and whether it is delayed.
Click a symbol to load its chart and quote in the panels beside the list.
HOW TO SWITCH TO A DIFFERENT SCAN¶
Click the scan name at the top of a panel, for example TOP_GAINERS.
Pick a scan from the list. The scans are grouped by style, such as Momentum & Gappers or Volume-Based.
On a phone, tap More at the end of the scan tabs, then pick a scan from All Presets.
All 44 scans, with the exact rules each one uses, are in Scanner presets.
HOW TO NARROW A SCAN WITH FILTERS¶
Filters cut a scan down to the stocks that fit your rules, such as a price range or a small float.
Above the panels, click Scanner only to switch to the single-list view.
Click Advanced filters.
Fill in any of the boxes: RSI, distance from the 52-week high, average volume, float, gap %, relative volume, price, market cap, premarket volume, short interest %, borrow fee %, or squeeze score.
The list updates as you type. Click Clear (the X beside the filters button) to remove them all.
To keep a filter set, type a name in Scan name and click Save. It appears under MY SCANS in the scan list.
HOW TO DESCRIBE A SCAN IN PLAIN ENGLISH (PRO)¶
Click the AI Scanner box in the middle of the top bar. On a phone, tap More, then Create custom scan.
Type what you want, for example sub-$5 stocks with volume above 1 million, and press Enter.
Your sentence turns into filters on the list. The chip under the box shows your sentence. Click its × to remove it.
The box understands price, market cap, volume, float, relative volume and sector. If it cannot read your sentence you see Couldn't parse that, try being more specific. Free accounts see the box locked with a PRO tag.
HOW TO SEND A ROW TO A CHART, WATCHLIST, ALERT OR BROKER¶
Right-click a row on a computer.
Choose Open Chart, Open Research, Add to Watchlist, Set Price Alert, Open in Sim, Buy (Paper), Short (Paper), Copy Symbol or Open in New Tab.
To open tickers in your own broker, use the OPEN IN chip in the toolbar and pick your platform.
On a phone card, tap CHART, SIM TRADE or + WATCHLIST. Swipe a card right for the chart or left to add it to your watchlist.
HOW TO GET AN ALERT WHEN A STOCK ENTERS A SCAN¶
Click ARM ALERT at the top of a panel. Logged-out visitors see ALERT ME, which leads to sign-up.
Allow push notifications when your browser asks.
A green ARMED tag shows the scan is watching. You get a push when a new symbol matches, even with the tab closed.
ARM ALERT appears on Top Gainers, Top Losers, Most Active and Unusual Volume, and on your own saved scans that use only price, % change, volume, relative volume, market cap, float, short interest, sector, or the news and range columns. When a saved scan cannot be armed, the button's tooltip says why.
HOW TO TURN ON SCANNER SOUNDS¶
Scanner sounds are off until you turn them on.
On a computer, find SND OFF in the scanner's top bar.
Click it. It changes to SND ON, and your browser may ask for one click on the page before it plays audio.
Click the bell on a panel header to choose which panels make sound. A panel with the bell off stays quiet.
On a phone, open the Alerts page and turn on the Sound switch.
Press M to mute or unmute all scanner sound. To set the tone, volume and pause between sounds, see Scanner sounds and halt alerts. Sounds for your own price alerts have a separate switch: Sound alerts in Settings, then Alerts, under Notification Preferences. It is off until you turn it on, and it needs Pro.

Grid Layouts¶
The grid renders in three densities — 2×1 (two panels), 2×2 (four), 3×2 (six). Default for new accounts is 3×2. Drag any panel header to reorder. Press Space to pause the live feed and study a frozen snapshot; press it again to resume.
Row indicators:
- Green pulse — ticker just entered the panel
- Fade-out — ticker dropped out of the panel
- Green/red flash — price changed on the current tick (visible even on the anonymous delayed feed)
- STALE — LAST CLOSE chip — market is closed and the displayed price is yesterday's close
The status bar displays the active session (Pre-Market / Market Open / After Hours / Market Closed), total symbols in the universe, and seconds since the last refresh.
Session-Aware Layout Presets¶
Instead of arranging panels manually, select a layout preset to load a curated four-panel set tuned to a session or trading style.

Auto Rotation
Set the layout preset to auto and Tapeboard rotates the panel set by clock: pre-market from 4:00 AM ET, market-open 9:30–10:30, the default mix through mid-day, power-hour from 3:00 PM, and after-hours after the close. The rotation only fires on actual session changes — it never overwrites panels you have manually arranged mid-session.
Scan Presets¶
Click any panel header to swap its preset. The dropdown organises all 44 presets into six categories. Each preset is a fixed filter-and-sort specification.

pre-market-runners filters for gap >4% AND RVOL >5 AND float <20M AND price $1–$20, sorted by gap descending. gap-and-go filters for premarket gap >5% on sub-50M float with 3×+ RVOL, sorted by gap descending. momentum-now (2026-07-11) sorts by a live 5-minute price-momentum score off the streaming feed, refreshed every few seconds; it is a free preset, not Pro-gated.
