1. What You Are Looking At

The dashboard is arranged into four main work areas:

Area Location in Image Purpose
Top Toolbar Very top of the screen Add panels, open the scanner, pause feeds, save/reset layouts
Chart Panel Upper-left large panel View price action, candles, volume, moving averages, and drawing tools
Watchlist + Quote Panel Right side Track selected symbols and view quote/news details
Scanner Panel Bottom panel Find active movers by volume, gap, float, relative volume, and price movement

2. Top Toolbar

Use the top toolbar to control the workspace.

Main Buttons

Button What It Does
+ Add Panel Adds another panel such as chart, watchlist, quote, scanner, or news
Scanner Opens or focuses the scanner panel
Pause Pauses live updating data so the screen stops changing while you review
Speaker/Icon Button Controls alerts or platform sounds
Starter Dropdown Selects the current workspace/layout
Save As Saves the current layout as a new workspace
Reset Resets the layout back to a default state

Basic Workflow

  1. Open the dashboard.
  2. Select the Starter layout.
  3. Add only the panels you need.
  4. Arrange panels so the chart is large enough to read.
  5. Click Save As after customizing the setup.

3. Chart Panel

The chart panel is the main area for reading price action.

In the screenshot, the selected chart is SOXS on a 5-minute timeframe.

Timeframe Buttons

Above the chart, you can see timeframe options:

Button Meaning
10s 10-second chart
1m 1-minute chart
2m 2-minute chart
5m 5-minute chart
15m 15-minute chart
1H 1-hour chart
1D 1-day chart
1W 1-week chart

How to Use Timeframes

Use shorter timeframes for faster intraday movement and longer timeframes for bigger context.

A simple beginner workflow:

  1. Check 1D or 1H first to understand the larger trend.
  2. Move to 15m to see the intraday structure.
  3. Use 5m for trade planning.
  4. Use 1m or 2m only if you need very detailed entry timing.

4. Candles

Each candle shows price movement for the selected timeframe.

For a 5-minute chart, each candle represents 5 minutes of trading.

Candle Part Meaning
Body Difference between open and close
Wick Highest and lowest price reached during that candle
Green Candle Price closed higher than it opened
Red Candle Price closed lower than it opened

Reading the Current Chart

The screenshot shows a sharp drop after hours, followed by a small sideways recovery. This means the symbol moved quickly lower, then began consolidating near the lower price range.

5. Moving Averages

The chart displays two exponential moving averages:

Indicator Color in Screenshot Meaning
EMA(9) Teal/green-blue Short-term moving average
EMA(20) Blue Slightly slower moving average

How to Use EMA(9) and EMA(20)

A simple way to read them:

  1. If price is above both EMAs, short-term momentum may be stronger.
  2. If price is below both EMAs, short-term momentum may be weaker.
  3. If EMA(9) crosses above EMA(20), momentum may be improving.
  4. If EMA(9) crosses below EMA(20), momentum may be weakening.
  5. After a big drop, price often moves sideways while the EMAs catch up.

Do not use moving averages alone. Always compare them with volume, trend, support/resistance, and market context.

6. Volume Bars

Volume appears at the bottom of the chart.

Volume Signal What It Can Mean
Large volume spike Strong interest, possible news, gap, or forced move
Low volume Less active trading, possible consolidation
Rising volume with price movement Momentum may be increasing
Falling volume after a move Move may be slowing down

In the screenshot, there is a clear volume increase around the sharp price drop.

7. Drawing Tools

The DRAW button above the chart lets you add visual notes.

Common tools include:

Tool Use
Trendline Mark uptrends or downtrends
Horizontal Line Mark support and resistance
Rectangle Highlight consolidation zones
Text Notes Add reminders or trade-plan notes
  1. Mark the high of the day.
  2. Mark the low of the day.
  3. Mark major support and resistance levels.
  4. Draw trendlines only when there are at least two or three clear touches.
  5. Remove old drawings when they no longer matter.

8. Watchlist Panel

The watchlist is on the right side of the dashboard.

It currently shows symbols such as:

  • AAPL
  • AMZN
  • ANZ.AX

Watchlist Columns

Column Meaning
Symbol Ticker symbol
Price Current or last traded price
CHG% Percentage change
VOL Trading volume
Open Opening price
High Highest price for the session
Low Lowest price for the session
Last Most recent update time

How to Add a Symbol

  1. Go to the watchlist panel.
  2. Click Add ticker...
  3. Type the ticker symbol.
  4. Press Enter.
  5. Click the symbol to load it into the quote/chart area.

9. Quote Panel

The quote panel is below the watchlist on the right side.

It shows details for the selected ticker. In the screenshot, the selected symbol is SOXS.

The quote panel includes:

Section Purpose
Ticker Name Shows the full fund/security name
Price Current/last price
Dollar Change Price change in dollars
Percent Change Price change in percentage
Exchange Market where it trades
News Headline Recent news related to the ticker

How to Use the Quote Panel

  1. Select a symbol from the watchlist or scanner.
  2. Review the current price and percentage change.
  3. Check whether the movement is unusually large.
  4. Read the headline area for possible news catalysts.
  5. Confirm the move on the chart before making any decision.

10. Scanner Panel

The scanner appears at the bottom of the dashboard.

In the screenshot, it is set to MOST_ACTIVE and displays 15 hits.

Scanner Columns

Column Meaning
TIME Time the scan result appeared
SYM Ticker symbol
PX Current/last price
%CHG Percentage change
VOL Volume
FLT Float, or estimated shares available for trading
RVOL Relative volume compared with normal volume
SPD Spread between bid and ask
GAP Gap percentage from previous close

How to Read Scanner Results

Look for symbols with:

  1. High volume.
  2. High relative volume.
  3. Strong percentage change.
  4. Clean chart movement.
  5. Tight spread.
  6. Clear news or catalyst.

Avoid chasing a symbol only because it is at the top of the scanner. Always open the chart and inspect the setup.

11. Suggested Beginner Workflow

Use this process when starting a session.

Step 1: Open the Starter Layout

  1. Click the layout dropdown.
  2. Choose Starter.
  3. Confirm that chart, watchlist, quote, and scanner panels are visible.

Step 2: Check the Scanner

  1. Look at the MOST_ACTIVE scanner.
  2. Sort by VOL, %CHG, or RVOL.
  3. Pick a few interesting symbols.
  4. Do not trade directly from the scanner.

Step 3: Load a Symbol on the Chart

  1. Click a scanner symbol.
  2. Confirm it loads into the chart/quote area.
  3. Review the current price action.

Step 4: Check Multiple Timeframes

  1. Start with 1D.
  2. Check 1H.
  3. Move to 15m.
  4. Use 5m for intraday structure.
  5. Use 1m only for precise timing.

Step 5: Mark Key Levels

Use the drawing tools to mark:

  • High of day
  • Low of day
  • Premarket high/low
  • Prior day high/low
  • Major support
  • Major resistance
  • Breakout or breakdown areas

Step 6: Confirm Volume

Before acting on a move, check whether volume supports it.

A move with low volume may fail quickly. A move with strong volume may have more follow-through, but it can also reverse sharply.

Step 7: Review Risk

Before entering any trade, decide:

  • Entry price
  • Stop level
  • Target price
  • Position size
  • Maximum acceptable loss
  • Reason for the trade

If you cannot clearly define risk, skip the trade.

12. Example: Reading the SOXS Chart in the Image

From the screenshot:

  1. SOXS is selected.
  2. The chart is on the 5-minute timeframe.
  3. Price had a sharp after-hours move lower.
  4. The quote panel shows a large negative percentage move.
  5. Volume increased during the drop.
  6. EMA(9) and EMA(20) are above or near price after the move.
  7. Price is trying to stabilize near the lower range.

A cautious reading would be: the ticker had a strong downward move and is currently attempting to consolidate. A trader would normally wait for confirmation before assuming a reversal or continuation.

13. Common Mistakes to Avoid

Mistake Why It Is Risky
Trading only because a ticker appears in the scanner Scanner activity does not guarantee a good setup
Ignoring volume Price moves without volume may fail
Using only one timeframe You may miss the larger trend
Buying after a huge spike without a plan Momentum can reverse quickly
Ignoring spread Wide spreads can cause bad entries/exits
No stop loss Losses can grow quickly
Trading leveraged ETFs without understanding risk Leveraged products can move sharply and decay over time

14. Quick Checklist

Before trading or studying a symbol, confirm:

  • Symbol is loaded correctly
  • Chart timeframe is correct
  • Larger trend has been checked
  • Key levels are marked
  • Volume confirms interest
  • Spread is acceptable
  • News/catalyst has been reviewed
  • Entry, stop, and target are planned
  • Risk is acceptable
  • You understand the instrument being traded

15. Simple Practice Routine

Use this dashboard for practice before live trading.

  1. Choose 3 symbols from the scanner.
  2. Open each on the 5-minute chart.
  3. Mark support and resistance.
  4. Write down what you think will happen next.
  5. Wait 15 to 30 minutes.
  6. Review whether the chart followed your idea.
  7. Record what you learned.

This helps build pattern recognition without risking money.

For beginners, keep the layout simple:

Panel Recommended Size
Chart Largest panel
Watchlist Small right-side panel
Quote Small right-side panel
Scanner Bottom panel

Avoid adding too many panels at first. A clean layout makes it easier to focus.

17. Final Notes

This dashboard is best used as a decision-support tool, not as an automatic trading signal.

Use it to:

  • Discover active symbols
  • Review price action
  • Confirm volume
  • Check news
  • Plan trades
  • Practice chart reading

Always combine dashboard signals with a written plan and risk management.
